French bread pizzas
FOR THE ROASTED GARLIC SPREAD
1 head garlic
2 tablespoon olive oil, divided
Pinch of sea salt
FOR THE PIZZA SAUCE
4 ounces tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon balsamic glaze
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
Pinch of sea salt
FOR THE PIZZAS
2 loaves French bread
Meat (I used salami and ground sausage)
Fresh mozzarella
Sliced onions
YOU’LL ALSO NEED
Fresh basil, finely chopped
Grated parmesan
Red chili flakes
Pizza oil
To make the roasted garlic spread, preheat the oven to 375˚F. Slice 1/4” off the top of the head of garlic. Place on foil then drizzle the exposed cloves with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Wrap in foil then roast for 45-50 minutes. Let cool then peel and smash the cloves. Stir in the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and sea salt.
To make the pizza sauce, combine the tomato sauce, balsamic glaze, garlic, oregano, basil, and salt in a small bowl.
To make the pizzas, preheat the oven to 400˚F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice two loaves of French bread lengthwise. Spread with heaping spoonfuls of roasted garlic spread then bake at 400˚F for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the oven then spread with pizza sauce and layer with meat(s), cheese, and any veg (I used onions) (black olives and mushrooms would be great, too!). Bake at 400˚F for 10-12 minutes. Finish with basil, parmesan, red chili flakes, and pizza oil (if desired).
